.: Optical Impressions ~ February:.

As is common these days, I first saw the trailer for this flick during another one. Sometime last year - who knows when.
I was immediately intrigued by the relatively original concept. The initial idea was automatically reminiscent of Superman, but theirs is a different story.

Nine extraterrestrial children are sent to Earth to escape the demise of their planet. Or rather, in the case of Lorien, their species' extinction at the hands of a vicious race known as the Mogadorians.
Each of the Lorien children are sent with a guardian to protect them, should the Mogadorians track them down. John can only be killed in order, due to a charm each have. This is meant to protect them. Not having much luck...
After number three's murder, John's guardian, Henri, takes them to Paradise, in Ohio, to take care of some things.
Disobeying Henri, John decides to go to school.
There he starts to fall for the outcast babe, Sarah, (Dianna Agron - Glee, Veronica Mars) and befriends the residential punching bag-cum-science geek, Sam.
John's legacies, or rather, his birthright powers begin to emerge which don't help one bit in keeping a low profile.
Inevitably, the Mogadorians find him and all hell breaks loose.
Big explosions, guns - the best kind.

I loved how some events panned out but felt that one key minor surprise was rather dumped our laps. I get it - the whole cutting for the movie. A couple of minutes would be all that it took to explain said event, but... whatever.

The special effects were amazing and I absolutely loved the critters, especially the surprise appearance at the end.
One of John's fellow Lorien survivors comes to his aid at the last third of the film. Number Six, played by Australia's own Teresa Palmer, was simply put, BADASS. I freaking love her. :)
And I loved that she wasn't using an American accent. You go girl!

Oh, yeah...
I'm now in love with beagles. Yes, those cute little tan, black & white mutts of pure cuteness.
Squeal! XD

Wanna watch it again.
So want this for my birthday. **wink wink**

Here's the link to the trailer. I won't link no. 2, in case people don't want too many spoilers.
